I’ve never been much of a boxing fan, and I’m really not into the wrestling that Hubby and CR watch on T.V. but I do read a lot and I just read a bit about Sugar Ray Robinson that was interesting.

It seems that when he was 26 and in his boxing prime he had a dream the night before his fight with Jimmy Doyle, but no one would take him seriously.  He begged his trainer and manager to call off the fight but they would not listen to him, it took a priest to soothe Robinson and to convince him to go ahead with the fight and so the fight went on as scheduled.

Doyle and Robinson slugged it out for seven rounds, both men took a lot of punishment.  In the eight round Robinson dazed Doyle with a double right to the stomach and ear, then a left hook to the jaw put Doyle down.  He fell heavily and cracked the back of his head with loud thud.

They say that Sugar Ray stared down at the motionless Doyle as if he was experiencing his terrible dream again.  Apparently Doyle’s hand fluttered towards the ropes before the referee declared the fight at an end.  Doyle never regained consciousness, the following afternoon he died of head injuries.

Sugar Ray Robinson was torn by the tragedy and was always haunted by this warning dream.

Strange but true!
