I guess you could say I’m a ‘city girl’ since I grew up just 3 miles from DC.  It was a great place to grow up in the 60’s and 70’s.  Man was there a lot going on up there during that time.  Hippies kept putting washing powder in the fountains causing all sorts of traffic problems when the fountain was in the middle of a ’round about’ I believe they call it.  Isn’t that what they call where four roads join into a circle instead of a regular intersection?  I think that’s right but I might be wrong.  After all, I am getting older and haven’t seen one of those things in years out here in the country.

Anyway, that was innocent fun.  Life was innocent and back then my best friend and I could go bike riding all day long on bike trails or catch the bus to whereever we wanted to go shopping.  We would spend the whole day gone and without a cell phone at that.  Imagine that…………..what a wonderful world it was then.  Parents didn’t have to worry about someone picking their kids up and never seeing them again.  We didn’t have to worry as much about anything back then.  They call what we have now ‘progress’.  Well I don’t know who ‘they’ are but they don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to everyday life.  That’s just my opinion.

We live out in the country and our house sits back off the road quite a way.  It’s pretty dark around our house unless we turn on the street light type light in our circle driveway.  My husband is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds so he’s not a small man.  He loves dressing up at Halloween as much as the children do I think.  Last year he got the bright idea to get the ‘Creepeez Werewolf’ costume from Halloween costumes and have some fun with the kids that came to the door.  Imagine seeing a 6 foot tall Werewolf come out from behind the bush at the back of our house about 10 feet from the door where there are 3 cute little ‘Trick or Treaters’ standing on our porch which is only about 3 feet wide and 5 feet long.  There are 4 steps going up to the porch.  There was a cute little Fairy, an adorable 3 year old frog and the one at the bottom step looked to be about 10 and was dressed in a red ‘Ninja’ costume with some of those ‘Combat Chucks’.

Well, when my husband came around that bush growling and snarling at the kids, the ‘Ninja’ attacked.  This little fella proceeded to hit my husband across his shin which made him bend over and grab his leg.  At that point the kid hit my husband right on top of the head twice before I knew what was going on.  I think he ended up hitting my husband in the shin, head and back about 6 or 7 times before I could get him to finally realize it was my husband and not a monster.  While all this was going on, the fairy was headed back to her parents car dragging the frog by it’s arm and both of them screaming bloody murder all the way.  The children’s parents were laughing so hard they didn’t know which child to get first, the terrorized fairy and frog or the attacking Ninja.  While the costume we bought was very reasonably priced, the hospital bill wasn’t.  The two knots that were raising on top of my husbands head worried me so we went to the hospital.  I should have known there was no need since he’s so hard headed but we sure gave the Emergency Room a good laugh for Halloween.

You have got to check out their web site.  I’ll even let you in on a little secret I found by accident.  If you scroll down the page about half way, you’ll see a box on the right side that says “Over 8,000 masquerade items”.  Under that it says “Our Store now has over 8,000 masquerade items for you to choose from”.  Well run your cursor over the coma in the second 8,000 and it’ll take you to a ‘backdoor’ page where you get an extra discount on the already discounted prices.  Now how cool is that?  We are already picking out our new costumes for this year but I think my husband needs to be maybe ‘Captain Jack Sparrow’ from Pirates of the Caribbean this year because everyone loves him and hopefully we’ll avoid the emergency room.

I was so happy to see Kristi win ‘Dancing with the stars’ last night.  It’s about time another woman won the mirror ball trophy.  I loved when they showed the ‘face off’ of her and Jason.  He’s so tall and she’s so short that it looked like a David and Goliath match.  Well the little lady knocked the big guy on his rear.  She’s an amazing dancer but I have to give Jason praise too.  To be a man as tall as he is and a football player, he did a great job.  I think all three of the finalists were all winners.

My husband and I bought my uncles house.  I love this house because it was already full of love before we bought it after my uncle died.  Lots of memories live here but it needs spiffying up.  The windows are not a standard size and so it isn’t easy to just go buy blinds for it.  Besides I wanted to keep the charm of the older home feel.  I checked out roman blinds and found everything I had been looking for.  They will make the blinds to custom fit any size window.  The prices were great.  The selection was perfect.  Heck if even Ty Pennington says they do a great job, then who am I to say any different.

You have heard about people running off with the circus, well my son, Jarhead is running off with the carnival.  I used to look at carney’s like most people other do but I don’t think I will now.  He’s an electrician and there just isn’t much around here anymore.  Everything is sort of at a stand still with the economy being what it is right now and construction is really down.  Anyone that has an electrical job is hanging on to it.  Can’t say as I blame them either.  With gas what it is, if you can’t find a job close by, you better get darn good hourly pay to make it worth the trip to and from work too.  Anyway, I’ll keep you posted on his adventures as a ‘Carney’.
