Well this is just what I needed to read. Carrying extra fat around your middle dramatically increases your risk of early death, even if your overall weight is normal, say researchers. A study of almost 360,000 people from nine European countries found waist size a “powerful indicator” of risk. Each extra 2ins raised the chance of early death by between 13% and 17%. The New England Journal of Medicine study stressed General Practitioners should regularly measure patients’ waists as a cheap and easy way to assess health.
Here I am worrying about being a bit heavy anyway and now they come up with this. Perfect. Well that lap band surgery is sounding better and better to me about now. I want to stick around for as long as possible and my ‘tummy’ isn’t helping me to do that. I think I’ll give the doctor a call tomorrow.
Our Health Insurance at work keeps going higher and higher. I checked into health plans online and was absolutely amazed at how affordable I could find it. For what I pay for group health, I can get better coverage online than what I already have. How is that possible? I always heard that group health was much cheaper than individual health insurance plans. Guess I heard wrong, ya know.
I read a story from Amsterdam, Netherlands about two Dutch men that were found guilty of injecting 14 people with HIV-AIDS. Their punishment I think was somewhat of a slap in the face of the 14 victims who have all tested positive for HIV. Peter M., 49, who was also convicted of rape, was sentenced to nine years in prison and Hans J., 39, received a five-year sentence. Under Dutch privacy laws, the surnames of convicted criminals are not released.
That’s it? That’s all the punishment they received for what should have been attempted murder? But in Wednesday’s ruling, judges said while the victims all had HIV, it could not be proven that they were infected by the injections because they willingly took part in orgies where gay men had unprotected sex. The suspects were not charged with attempted murder since Dutch courts have held that HIV is a chronic illness rather than an inevitably fatal one.
Okay if HIV is just a chronic illness, then show me one person that has been cured of it then. Can the judge do that? Yes this whole thing angers me very deeply because it’s almost like ‘gay bashing’ by the courts to me but that’s just my opinion.
Have you ever noticed how Debra’s, Deb’s or Debbies tend to be, shall we say fluffy? Well I’m one of those ‘fluffy Debra’s’ myself. My doctor suggested I think about going to a lap band physician and talking with him. I really need to drop about 50 pounds to be in what they call my ‘ideal weight’. I know someone at work that had it done over the summer and they look great. I’ll probably do it too.
Is it me or has this been a long week? We had a teachers work day on Tuesday so thank goodness there were only kids in school for just 4 days this week and still it was a long week. Why is it that when you get a day off in the middle of the week, it makes the week seem to drag on? Maybe it’s because in your mind you’re thinking it will go by fast and that just slows everything down. Does that make any sense at all? I think I’m ready for the winter break. I think I need it.
